Troy Polamalu Retires

“Good luck putting this one into words” -the universe, at Steeler writers last night.

The man, the myth, the legend, Troy Polamalu has announced his retirement from the NFL. It’s been a long time coming, as Troy has started to slow down in his last few seasons, to the point where he actually played football like a human, well below his established standard.

We would be here all day if we tried to remember every impact play Troy Polamalu made for the Steelers in his decade plus in the secondary. We can all picture him diving for interceptions, cutting across the field to score a defensive touchdown, any my personal favorite, being able to perfectly time the snap count and sack an opposing quarterback before he even got both hands on the football.

Polamalu is as close to a slam-dunk Hall of Famer as you get when you play defense, and someone will eventually have the unenviable task of recreating those trademark flowing curly locks in bronze, to be enshrined alongside the game’s greats in Canton.

Congratulations to Polamalu on a phenomenal career. He’ll go down as one of the Steelers’ legendary defenders.
