It wasn’t the second half we all wanted to see after the Steelers jumped out to a 24-3 lead at halftime, but as Mike Tomlin has preached since he arrived in Pittsburgh, style points don’t matter at the Steelers got the job done with a 24-19 win. The team will have a shot at winning an unprecedented 7th Lombardi Trophy against the Green Bay Packers.
Just a few quick thoughts:
1. Big Ben just wins. Not his best game, but he made clutch throws both early and late in the game. He also made a ton of plays with his feet when nobody was open.
2. Jets cornerbacks played their balls off in the second half. The Jets were stacking 8 or 9 guys in the box every play and Revis and Cro weren’t letting anybody get free.
3. A big-time performance from Rashard Mendenhall.
4. It was a pretty quiet game again from Troy Polamalu, but he now has a week off to heal and you know he has some big plays up his sleeve.
5. Bruce Arians showed huge stones during the last drive of the game, throwing the ball twice. He probably won’t get enough credit for that, but he played to win all the way.
6. Maurkice Pouncey: Thoughts and prayers. Hope you get well soon.
7. Unbelievable performance from the fans at Heinz Field. Chants for Pouncey when he want down. A chant for Heath Miller just for throwing a block. Renegade. Tip of the cap to you.
One more win to go everybody. You know what it is.
Black and yellow.
