Breaking: Steelers sign James Harrison

Silverback only had one year left on his deal, so this is just great news.

It’s been written before by people that the best move for the Steelers would be to trade him now at his peak value or that they should let him walk after next season, but it’s obvious the Stees had other plans.

Harrison will make just over $51 million in the six year extension.

A while back I mentioned that Harrison’s value should take a hit since he’s already 30 and not  27 or 28, but I’m more than willing to mildly overpay for the guy after what he’s done the past couple seasons. The Steelers would be crazy not to do anything they can to resign him.

Pittsburgh still hasn’t signed a free agent from elsewhere this offseason, but I think the message is clear from the Rooney’s: We can and will take care of our own first.

Getting this deal done is far more important to this team than any free agent they would have signed.
