There aren’t any *real* surprises here. I’m sure some are surprised that Frank Summers made the team over Davis and I’d have liked to have seen Redman and Anthony Madison squeezed on the roster somewhere, but the Steelers are deep at a ton of positions and it’s a tough roster to make.
We’ve (unfairly) been attacked and labeled as Isaac Redman haters because of a post I wrote a few weeks back where I said that I’d be surprised if he makes the team and even more surprised if he played a big role in the team’s future, despite his preseason success.
I was definitely rooting for Redman to make the team and it sucks to see him be cut after a stellar preseason. But this is the NFL and tough choices like these are why the Steelers are good every year. Redman definitely deserves a shot some place, which might end up being elsewhere. NFL rosters are extremely tough to make and a lot of quality football players don’t make it. That’s just how it goes.
Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin both understand, though, that a few preseason games don’t over weigh a known veteran like Mewelde Moore.
I wish Madison would have been kept around because he’s a great special teams player, but hopefully some of the younger DBs can fill that gap.
