The Ravens did a lot of good things in the last minute of today’s game and it was enough to come back and steal a victory away from the Steelers 17-14.
After Charlie Batch led a magnificent 93-yard drive against the Ravens late in the 4th quarter and the Steelers defense made a 4th down stand on their own three yard line, it looked like Pittsburgh was in business. But a few false start penalties stalled the Steelers next drive and forced Dan Sepulveda to punt from his own endzone. Naturally, another penalty was called against the Steelers on the punt and the Ravens got the ball at the 40 yard line. A few easy sideline throws for 10 yards against the Steelers soft coverage and a Joe Flacco TD pass to Houshwhatever was all it took for Baltimore to complete the comeback.
This has to be a very frustrating loss for the Steelers defense who played very well in the 2nd half until the Ravens’ winning drive.
Jeff Reed also missed two field goals early in the game.
As frustrating as the penalties and lethargic offense was today, a little perspective is needed. The Steelers (probably) should have won this game with their 4th string QB at the helm and without a passing game. Pittsburgh still sits at 3-1, the same record as Baltimore with Roethlisberger and an easy game against Cleveland on the horizon. Stay the course. We’re still in good shape.
