First off, a big shoutout to @erma232 on Twitter for bringing this story to my attention again.
The last time the Steelers were in the Super Bowl, proud fan Bob Zinski was in attendance. Zinski was battling terminal cancer and his friends and family partnered with the Steelers and the NFL teamed up to give the deserving man the weekend of his life. E:60 did a story about it that aired the following fall and it was extremely touching. I blogged about it at the time and Bob was kind enough to leave a comment thanking me for writing about his story.
Bam,
This is Bob Zinski..thank you for pointing folks torwards our story. We love the Steelers as they help me each and every week to forget about my cancer and to become a true fan. You can follow our daily struggle at our caring bridge sitehttp://www.caringbridge.org/visit/robertzinski
God Bless,
Bob
E:60 reran the story this weekend and I learned that Bob had passed away this past year after putting up a long fight.
It is always important to remember what football, to me anyway, is really about – bringing people together. Bob will continue to be in Steeler Nation’s heart for a long, long time and I’m sure he’ll be enjoying Super Bowl XLV from the best seat in the house.
Please, please check out his story on E:60 and say a prayer for his family.
