Since it was announced a few months ago that the next Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises” would be filmed in Pittsburgh, it has been fun to try and figure out what locations the filmmakers would choose. Would the Cathedral of Learning make an appearance? Would they blow up Mellon Arena?
While filming is still ungoing and nobody knows for sure which landmarks will be used, it was confirmed today that Heinz Field will be in the film. Per the AP:
Thousands of movie extras are being sought for a football stadium scene being filmed Aug. 6 at the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Batman sequel, “The Dark Knight Rises” due out next year.
The extras will be cast as fans attending a game between the fictional Gotham Rogues and their celluloid rivals, the Rapid City Monuments.
Hopefully the producers get it right and the Gotham Rogues are wearing black and gold and the Monuments purple, white and black. It would also be pretty cool to see a Steeler or two make a cameo appearance, but that is probably too much to ask.
I’m a huge Batman fan to begin with, but knowing the next film is shot in Pittsburgh AND Heinz Field specifically will make The Dark Knight Rises even cooler.
