The Steelers list of injuries was long, but there was no excuse to lose this game. Mike Tomlin elected to go for a 54 yard field goal with 48 seconds left, handing the Titans the ball with great field position and plenty of time to move down the field. Jared Cook easilly beat James Harrison on a 3rd down for a 25 yard gain on 3rd down. Rob Bironas booted a 40 yard field goal as time expired to lift the Titans to the 26-23 win.

The Steelers handed the Titans a touchdown earlier when Drew Butler’s punt attempt was blocked at the end of the 1st quarter. An ensuing pass interference call gave the Titans the ball at the 1 yard line and they punched it in for an easy score.

Since 2011, the Steelers are 5-7 on the road and have lost all 3 games away from Heinz Field this season. They are 9-1 at home during that same span.

Pittsburgh falls to 2-3 and has now lost to both the Titans and Raiders. They’re in danger of falling even farther behind the Ravens and Bengals, though the division race looks very much like a longshot at this point. The Steelers won’t be going to the playoffs unless this team gets healthy and learns how to play on the road.
