Steelers Select Offensive Weapon Dri Archer In 3rd Round

Dri (“dree”) Archer is the fastest player in the 2014 by a comfortable margin. Listed as a running back in college, he’ll likely play wide receiver in the NFL, as he’s simply too small (5’7″, 173 lbs) to withstand being tackled on every play.

With the speed Archer has and with the success Pittsburgh has had with smaller receivers, it’s easy to get excited about this pick. He’ll have the luxury of development behind the free-agent-bolstered wide receiver corps in Pittsburgh, and given his ability in space, likely see some kick and punt returns. A player like Archer may not fit into a certain positional definition, but Archer is an offensive weapon. Speed is one of the things you can’t coach, and the Steelers appear to be trying to get faster this year.
