In addition to the nine players the Steelers released earlier today, six more players got their pink slips today to get down to the mandated 75-man roster limit. On their way out this afternoon were:
- OL Chris Elkins
- OL Emannuel McCray
- DL Hebron Fangupo
- DL Brian Arnfelt
- RB Tauren Poole
- LS Luke Ingram
With Poole’s release, the Steelers’ running backs are limited to Le’Veon Bell, LeGarrette Blount, Josh Harris, and Stephen Houston. I’m counting Dri Archer as a wide receiver, because he wear #13 so he has to be. Assuming Bell and/or Blount get suspended in some capacity, that leaves the depth at running back pretty scarce. Harris and Houston will probably get a lot of chances to prove they belong Thursday against Carolina.
It’s also worth noting that the parted ways with a long snapper, leaving just Greg Warren on the roster. Warren recently had a minor surgery but Mike Tomlin said he could be ready for opening day, which is obviously a good thing.
If I had the money, I’d own this jersey.
Rosters must be trimmed to 53 players by Saturday at 4 PM.
